PattySitters LLC is committed to providing a fully accessible website experience for all users of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers, screen enlargement software, and alternative keyboard input devices to navigate the web.
Ongoing Efforts to Ensure Accessibility
We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as our guiding principle for determining accessibility. These are internationally agreed-upon standards that cover a wide range of recommendations and best practices for making content useable. As we add new pages and functionality to our website, all designs, code, and content entry practices are checked against these standards.
Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test content and features for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance and remediate any issues to ensure we meet or exceed the standards. Testing of our website is performed by our team members using industry-standard tools such as the Accessibility Checker WordPress Plugin, color contrast analyzers, keyboard-only navigation techniques, and Flesch-Kincaid readability tests.

Where We're Improving
In our efforts to bring our website up to standard, we are targeting the following areas:
- Proper heading structure. Use
<h1>,<h2>,<h3>, etc. in a logical hierarchy, rather than choosing headings purely for their visual appearance. - Alternative text for meaningful images. Photos, graphics, icons, and other non-text content should have useful text equivalents when they communicate information. Decorative images generally should not be announced by screen readers.
- Sufficient color contrast. Text, buttons, form controls, and important graphical elements need enough contrast against their backgrounds.
- Do not rely on color alone. For example, a required field shouldn't be indicated only by turning its label red. WCAG explicitly says color cannot be the sole method of communicating information.
- Keyboard navigation. A user should be able to navigate menus, buttons, links, forms, accordions, popups, sliders, and other controls without using a mouse.
- Proper HTML semantics. Navigation should behave like navigation, buttons should actually be buttons, lists should be lists, tables should use table markup, and so forth. This is particularly important for screen readers and other assistive technologies.
- No uncontrolled autoplay. Automatically playing audio can create sign.
- Don't require dragging. If something can only be operated through a drag gesture, there should generally be another way to accomplish the same task. WCAG 2.2 specifically addresses dragging movements.
- Plain, understandable content. Accessibility isn't only technical. Clear headings, short paragraphs, descriptive labels, straightforward instructions, and predictable layouts help users with cognitive disabilities as well.
This is part of our broader effort to make everyone's experience at PattySitters LLC a welcoming and enjoyable one. Please note that while we make every effort to provide information accessible for all users, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of third party websites to which we may link.
